Summary:

The PdM Technician routinely monitors plant equipment with the goals of improving equipment reliability and lowering maintenance costs through the application of predictive maintenance technologies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Vibration Data Collection and Analysis Level I

  • Infrared Thermography Level I

  • Work intimately with site maintenance resources to build advocates for PdM and to expand the use of PdM technology outside of the PdM department

  • Report on developing fault conditions and provide corrective actions and severity estimates. Coordinate with the Planning group to ensure maintenance requirements are effectively communicated. Perform post repair analysis to verify accuracy of fault identification in order to continuously improve diagnostic skills

  • Develop and report Failure Avoidance Case sheets for repaired equipment defects

  • Perform post failure analysis to verify accuracy of fault identification in order to continuously improve diagnostic skills

  • Attend training on multiple PdM technologies, analysis methodologies, and precision maintenance best practices. Obtain required certifications by target dates listed in long range Reliability training plan.

  • Develop, maintain, and report on metrics relevant to the predictive maintenance process

  • Maintain accurate and current predictive maintenance data in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Develop the PdM systems and procedures to ensure accurate and repeatable data is collected and analyzed on targeted equipment at appropriate intervals. Research assigned equipment in order to build a comprehensive fault set database.

  • Verify the quality of new project installation with predictive technologies

  • Provide guidance to the project engineering group on reliability based installation standards

  • Teach/Assist site maintenance personnel in performing precision alignments and documenting pre- and post-precision results on both direct and indirect drive equipment. This includes amp readings, vibration and alignment results at a minimum.

  • Adhere to cGMP, Safety and Environmental requirements

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, job plans and/or equipment manuals to perform work

  • Responsible for maintaining training matrix requirements.

Tech 2

  • Essential Reliability Skills

  • Strong mathematical skills with the ability to apply this knowledge to the various PdM technologies

  • PC skills and experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point) as well as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

  • Willingness to initiate change

  • Ability to train plant personnel in PdM concepts and benefits

  • Communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal form

  • Build positive working relationships with cross-functional teams across multiple business units

  • Read, interpret, and apply information from files, drawings, catalogs, reports, and manuals

Tech 3

  • Knowledge and experience with the application of root cause failure analysis.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of vibration analysis, infrared and ultrasonic technologies.

  • Knowledge of essential precision maintenance

  • Understands how area equipment functions in process applications

  • Experience with multiple maintenance crafts (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, piping, HVAC); with the ability to apply this knowledge to the complete, timely, technically-correct, cost-effective mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting activities.

  • Proficiently use computerized maintenance management system to locate/identify replacement parts, coordinate multiple and interdisciplinary work requests, and investigate equipment repair history.

  • Ability to support installation, startup and commissioning of Capital Projects.

  • Knowledge and training as required by OSHA on applicable safe work practices and process safety management

  • Use communication skills to effectively resolve problems with technical personnel including department managers, supervisors and outside technical support.

Tech 4

  • Pursue new avenues for technology integration into the facility to improve reliability or build local expertise.

Requirements:

Tech 2

  • Associates degree in a relevant technical field

  • Required to attend formal training courses and obtain up to a Level I certification in Ultrasonic Monitoring along with a Level I certificate in Vibration Analysis.

  • 4 years of relevant experience

Tech 3

  • Associates degree in a relevant technical field

  • Required to attend formal training courses and obtain up to a Level I certification in Motor circuit analysis (MCA) and Dynamic Balancing technologies along with a Level II certificate in Vibration Analysis.

  • 6 years of relevant experience

Tech 4

  • Associates degree in a relevant technical field

  • Required to attend formal training courses and obtain up to a Level I certification in at least one of the following technologies along with a Level III certificate in Vibration Analysis.

  • Tribology

  • Modal Analysis

  • Cause Mapping

  • 8 years of relevant experience

Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements.

Occupational Demands:

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment or warehouse with rotating shifts. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Exposure to chemicals, electrical manufacturing equipment, hand tools and moving machinery. Operates forklifts, tractors and power equipment. Exposure to high levels of noise and to dust/gas/fumes/steam. Exposure to extreme cold below 32* and on occasion, exposure to extreme heat above 100*. Exposure to vibration or oscillating movements of the extremities or the whole body. Occasional entry into confined spaces, requiring kneeling, crawling, climbing and squatting. Works at heights on scaffolding and/or on ladders. Walks on uneven ground. Personal protective equipment required such as; protective eyewear, chemical suits, safety shoes and/or rubber footwear, gloves, hearing protection and a respirator. Heavy lifting and carrying of 45lbs. for up to 6-8 hours per day, with a maximum lift of 75lbs. Work is performed standing, walking, bending and twisting waist for 4-6 hours per day. Frequent foot movements. Occasionally reaches above and below shoulder height. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Frequent hand movements with simple grasping of one hand with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. Hearing acuity essential. Color perception/discrimination, depth perception and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences. Performs a wide range of complex tasks. Adheres to a work schedule to meet production standards.
