The Director, Medical Affairs Diagnostics USA provides strategic planning scientific and medical oversight in support of the North American (NA) commercial strategies within the diagnostics area of transfusion medicine.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provided scientific support and guidance to the North American Region

  • Develops scientific content of educational events for customers (e.g. workshops, symposia, user meetings, etc.)

  • Develops scientific materials for customers (e.g. booklets, newsletters, pocket guides, etc.) and for internal use (e.g. speaking points)

  • Coordinates scientific activities at congresses, fosters key relationships with customers and thought leaders

  • Coordinates and develops content for advisory boards and expert panels

  • Coordinates and oversees Grifols' post-marketing research projects and publications, including investigator sponsored research

  • Establishes and fosters collaborative relationships with thought leaders, investigators and medical associations or societies

  • Reviews promotional materials and events to ensure scientific soundness and accuracy

  • Monitors industry innovation to assess competitive activity and current and future needs

  • Provides scientific and technical expertise and guidance for regulatory and market access purposes

  • Manages budget, quality & timelines of medical affairs projects

  • Manages external consultants

  • Supports product development core teams for selected products

  • Supports Grifols Public Affairs in FDA submissions and for coding and reimbursement strategies

  • Supports Clinical Affairs by reviewing and providing feedback of clinical affairs protocols

  • Medical Doctor or Ph.D. (science degree, e.g. biologist, pharmacist, immunology, pathology, etc.) with specialization in Transfusion medicine/Immunohematology


  • Minimum 5 years or more of experience in transfusion medicine (e.g. blood banking, transfusion services, immunohematology reference laboratory)

  • Expertise in molecular diagnostics

  • Expertise in blood banking technologies

  • Research and publication background

  • Industry experience in In Vitro Diagnostics markets is an asset

  • English (high level)

  • Ability to communicate key messages in presentations

  • Proven experience in leading and influencing people with multicultural backgrounds

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills

  • Strategic mindset and able to oversee the medical strategy to support Grifols' business objectives

  • Skills to facilitate/optimize contribution of team members scientific leadership in the field (internal and with customers)

  • Strong proficiency with current information systems

  • Willingness to travel (30% domestic and some international)
