Summary:

Instructional Designer designs, creates, and maintains quality training materials, including e-learning products through instructional design knowledge, consultation skills, and authoring and graphic design technology. Designs an overall instructional strategy for courses, meeting the learning objectives, target audience, and accepted principles of adult learning. Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and proposes potential custom learning projects.

  • Performs task analysis and training needs analysis, and makes recommendations for learning solutions (e-learning or blended) to close knowledge gaps. Designs interactive, innovative, and measurable interventions that fill the performance gaps.

  • Writes engaging, clear, accurate, and consistent learning materials. Designs and develops storyboards, scripts, narratives, jobs aids, and other learning content.

  • Reviews learning media for effectiveness, appropriateness, creativity, and quality.

  • Uses design and writing tools to design and write learning programs.

  • Collaborates with learning development team, client stakeholders, and subject matter experts to develop training programs.

  • Ensures training control of all compliance-based electronic and hard-copy course materials and SOP’s to include e-learning courseware.

  • Researches advances in the field of learning, then evaluates and adapts these improvements to the content development process and learning product design.

  • Follows established instructional systems design (ISD) processes and methodologies to complete deliverables; presents these methodologies to clients when necessary.

  • Maintains ownership of instructional design business processes. Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) with internal controls.

Requirements:

Bachelors or Master’s degree in Instructional Design or related field.

Level 1- Also requires a minimum of 2 years of instructional design experience, including experience creating multimedia for development of on-line training.

Level 2- Also requires a minimum of 5 years of instructional design experience, including experience creating multimedia for development of on-line training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of adult educational learning theories and be able to follow ISD model for adult learning. Advanced knowledge of web-based technology such as HTML, DHTML, Scripting, XML, Dreamweaver, Flash and relevant instructional authoring tools, such as Articulate Suite and instructional design techniques. Strong skills in PowerPoint, Word, and narration tools. Strong presentation skills and management of group dynamics. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, including the ability to perform root cause analysis. Ability to develop effective working relationships with client groups through good communication and relationship building skills. Ability to collaborate and communicate with various groups of employees. Ability to continuously learn and develop. Ability to maintain customer focus and achieve learning goals. Ability to manage, synthesize and communicate complex information.

Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Frequently walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 30lbs. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups.

The estimated pay scale for the Instructional Designer role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $73,570 to $85,000 annually. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
