Grifols Diagnostic in San Diego, CA is seeking a Quality Control Intern. This Quality Control Intern position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a Diagnostic Manufacturing environment with direct exposure to a FDA and IVDR regulated Quality Control laboratory. Specifically, you will work as a laboratory assistant, where you will gain knowledge of state-of-the-art analytical equipment and systems. You will gain exposure to different areas of the Quality Organization including Quality Control Requirements, Change Controls, Record Review and Retention, Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices.

We are seeking interested individuals who have at least an Associate's degree or 2 years of undergraduate experience in any applicable Quality related field.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Freezing and thawing of Red Blood Cells, maintaining organization of the stocks and equipment.

  • Aliquoting and freezing of anti-sera and maintaining organization of the stocks.

  • Organize and maintain stocks and purchasing of consumables and reagents required for the laboratory.

  • Maintain organization of QC stocks of stability and retention samples.

  • Sustain monthly subscriptions of Reagent Red Blood Cells Purchased from other Grifols entities.

  • Prepare chemical reagents and maintain organization and expiration of stocks.

  • Track calibration and preventative maintenance requirements of the QC laboratory equipment and ensure equipment are maintained accordingly. Communicate with Internal Service Engineer or Manufacturing Technical Support Immediately upon discovery of an equipment/instrumentation issue.

  • Maintain accurate documentation for QC stocks of reference standards, frozen single source anti-sera, and frozen red blood cells.

  • Responsible for the periodic cleaning requirements for all laboratory equipment and the documentation of activities.

  • Responsible for compliance to Good Documentation Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices

  • Assist and train on performing quality control procedures, quality reviews of maintenance records, etc..

  • Participate in weekly Manufacturing Technical Support meetings.

  • May perform low complexity methods using instrumentation such as Sysmex Blood Analyzers or UV/Vis Spectrophotometer.

  • Accessions, tests, and documents results for biological samples used in daily QC testing.

  • Attend meetings as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites

  • Strong ability to demonstrate time management, organization and prioritizing tasks

  • Ability to work independently on multiple simultaneous projects and be flexible to changing priorities

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Basic knowledge of GMP/QSR requirements is a plus.

  • Basic computer skills.

Education

  • Recently finished (<6 months) undergraduate degree or degree near completion in any applicable Quality related field

  • Minimum of 2+ years university experience or an associate’s degree

Occupational Demands

Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. May occasionally enter BioRisk Area. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks and stands. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences. Interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues.

Pay Scale

The estimated pay scale for Quality Intern role based in San Diego, California is $20.00 per hour.
