Grifols Shared Services North America, Inc Scientist II in San Diego, California



With direction from supervisor, initiate, direct, and execute scientific research and/or development strategies. As appropriate to assigned responsibilities, investigate feasibility of a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts for potential inventions, products, and problems. Plan and execute own experimental work and direct that of others to accomplish overall project goals. Demonstrate technical proficiency, strong integrative analytical skills, and scientific creativity. Analyze associated lines of investigation and devise and recommend methods to resolve project problems. Write and review product documentation. Present data to groups within and outside the department, including management groups as appropriate. Maintain project documentation and write summary reports as needed. Within area of responsibility, interface with various departments as needed. Work on other technical and/or administrative projects as directed

Primary responsibilities for role:

Responsible for a sub-project within the overall project goals. Demonstrated competence in the following areas:

  • Feasibility – e.g. Contributing to one or more of the following: the design of oligo systems, sample processing or assay formulation experiments. Perform experiments to support feasibility of software such as results processing, change to the instrument or new instrumentation. o

  • Assay Development – Executing experiments in one or more of the following areas: experiments and reports to support formulation development, experiments and reports to transfer assay to manufacturer.

  • Assay Integration – Executing experiments in one or more of the following areas: experiments and reports to support the delivery of assay specific software, experiments qand reports to improve assay or instrument robustness o V&V studies– Executing appropriate protocols, experiments, and reports to complete assay V&V studies .

  • Maintain project documentation in accordance with internal Grifols and external regulatory requirements

  • Conduct all laboratory assignments in accordance with established safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the basic knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required: Solid knowledge of core technologies, Manage execution, Build realistic plans, Promote teamwork, Share the vision, and Make sound decisions


B.A. /B.S. Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.

  • M.S. Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.

  • Ph.D. Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.


  • 8 years post-baccalaureate industrial experience.

  • 5 years industrial experience post-M.S.

  • 2 years industrial experience post-Ph.D.


Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of experience equivalency
